- Our three hour riding sessions provide "hands-on" training for brand new riders.
- Our program is specifically designed to have less risk than other programs.
- We have been teaching people to ride motorcycles at our Kearny Mesa facility for over 25 years.
- Complete satisfaction is guaranteed or your tuition will be returned!

We do not promote motorcycling; we promote making informed choices! The begin2ride program provides you the physical knowledge and
risk management techniques so you can make informed choices about your journey as a motorcyclist. Beginners who get properly introduced to the physical elements of riding tend to
feel less scared because they have purposefully eliminated unnecessary risks while preparing for street riding. A prerequisite for our begin2ride program is that you can
balance and ride a bicycle (with pedals).
Begin2ride is designed for first time riders! You will use appropriate sized 125cc motorcycles, and experienced riders are not allowed
to mix with our new riders. Everyone in our classes will be at your level! This greatly reduces risk as well as anxiety for our new riders.
The begin2ride program at San Diego Motorcycle Training offers three, 3-hour riding sessions for beginners using 125cc motorcycles. Each session develops
a particular skill-set. Participants in these sessions learn risk management techniques and the fundamental skills used to operate a motorcycle
with control. Our motto is, "Be informed before you ride." By becoming familiar with the physical skills of motorcycling through the begin2ride program you
will make even more informed choices when shopping for your first motorcycle.
We recommend you attend the first session, "Basic Motorcycling Skills" even before you prepare for your written test (learners permit) at the DMV.
We have found that people who have some familiarity with the physical skills of motorcycling achieve better understanding when reading the
DMV motorcycling handbook. We will give you the DMV Motorcycle handbook at the end of the first session.
The begin2ride program consists of 3 sessions using the 125cc (beginner) motorcycles:
- Session 1: Basic Motorcycling Skills
This session establishes the foundation skills, on which all other skills are built. We practice smooth take-offs, proper riding posture, and using the brakes for effective stopping.
We will teach you a system for risk management that can save your life and increase the fun. Managing risk is crucial for your long term enjoyment of motorcycles.
Our only assumption is that you can already balance and pedal a bicycle. You will be taught proper riding posture, shifting and "finding" neutral.
Mastery of the throttle roll-on, coordinated with clutch release, for getting underway smoothly, are primary objectives. We end this three hour riding session with practice
using both brakes for effective stopping. We recommend you complete Basic Motorcycling Skills before you schedule your written test at the DMV.
You gain riding experience in this session, which helps you better understand and be more successful with the written test questions.
- Session 2: Stability and Leaning Skills
We continue to practice the foundation skills that are so important to controlling the motorcycle. We then add the skills of maintaining stability through smooth
throttle control. Once we are stable wel practice the exciting exercise of surmounting obstacles. You will also have fun practicing techniques to confidently lean the motorcycle to control direction. Mastery of controlling direction and smooth
speed adjustments for stability are primary objectives. Riding the weave exercise is a blast! In this session we cover all the basic skills to control speed and direction.
Every advanced skill is a combination of the skills practiced in this session.
- Session 3: Combination Skills
In this session, we start combining the basic skills into a complete set of skills to control motorcycle speed and direction.
Combination Skills are the skills you need to ride any motorcycle with confidence and control.
We recommend completing "Combination Skills" before you have your first motorcycle ride on the street.
Begin2ride Tuition: $98 per session or all three sessions for a discount price of $245
